“I was absolutely delighted. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them,” said Hayden who has now seen his improving side win three of their last four.

“We had a few away at university and injured so I was really pleased with the performance.

“We were clinical in attack while the defence has stopped making mistakes.”

The margin of victory was even more surprising as West Midlands sides have often thought to be stronger than their Midland Combination couterparts.

However, Hayden said it was impossible to judge the relative merits of the two leagues on Saturday’s display alone.

“We performed that well that I doubt there would have been a team in the West Midlands Regional or the Midland Combination that could have coped with us.

“The tough thing now is going to be Saturday and keeping everybody’s feet on the ground.”

Racing Club entertain Chelmsley Town tomorrow in the Les James Challenge Cup (3pm).
