Holleran hopes home run can bring a change in fortunes

Brakes were forced to name assistant manager Liam O’Neill on the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Vauxhall Motors, alongside a half-fit Lee Moore.

With resources already stretched, Craig Owen’s injury problems resurfaced after the trip to Stalybridge while Matty Dodd was ruled out with a hip flexor problem and Stefan Moore was suffering from a sore knee.

With loanee James Fry back at Birmingham City after picking up an ankle injury and Richard Batchelor and Martyn Naylor long-term absentees, Holleran said the decision to add O’Neill’s name to the bench makes the club “look a bit more professional”.

However, he is hoping five home games in November, plus the relatively short trip to Worcester City, will help ease the situation and get the club climbing the table.

“It’s freakish,” said Holleran. “To have so many out in one go is testing.

“The secret to our success last year was continuity.

“We didn’t have to change things around much.

“The level we are at now is far superior and too many changes are being forced upon us.

“Hopefully we’ll get one or two back in the next ten days and we’ll get some momentum and turn these narrow defeats into narrow victories.

“It would be nice to come out of November with some positive results to give everyone at the club a lift.”

Tomorrow Brakes welcome Guiseley, who have recovered from a slow start to sit four points above their hosts, before making the trip to Aggborough to face Worcester City.

“We’ve seen it before,” added Holleran. “Everything can change in three or four days and the league can look completely different.”

“If we keep showing the same resilience, we’ll start to get something out of games.”
