The home side started strongest, showing little respect to a Whitnash side that had twice beaten them this season without conceding a goal.

On a small, narrow pitch, Whitnash’s midfield had no room to impose themselves on the game, with the Coventry side working tirelessly to starve them of space.

The policy worked, with Jaguar opening the scoring in the 25th minute. Their young left-winger showed great pace to beat full-back Jack Taylor and his pull-back was finished well to give Neil Stacey in the Town goal no chance.

Whitnash showed more fight after the break and were level on the hour-mark. Paul Wilkinson’s shot was too hot for the keeper to handle and Henry Leaver reacted quickest to poke home the rebound.

With the home side looking tired, Whitnash went into the lead ten minutes later, Alex Unitt cutting inside from the right to beat two men and feed the ball to Ross Briscoe, who made no mistake.

Whitnash should have kicked on from there, but it was the home side who raised their game, penning their opponents back into their own half for the closing ten minutes.

The Whitnash defence, marshalled by former Leamington centre-back Si Walker and Craig Watkin, stood firm until the 86th minute when a cross from the left was converted at the back post to give the home side the point they deserved.
