Kings deliver against Sun Postal

It was a good night for Kings Langley as goals from Nathan Pooley, Adam Hallissey and Jimmy Armstrong handed them a 3-1 win at Sun Postal Sports.

Shrugging off the unavailability of five players from their previous match, Kings showed the depth of their first team squad as they blitzed into a two-goal lead in the first ten minutes.

Pooley’s in-swinging corner powered into the roof of the net just below the far angle, although Sun were vociferous in complaints that their goalkeeper had been impeded.

The home defence was all at sea again eight minutes later as long throw expert Gary Wallace delivered a ball to the near post. The ball was allowed to bounce and Hallissey reacted to put a point-blank header into the net.

As so often happens with an early 2-0 scoreline, Kings failed to push home the advantage and allowed their early superiority to be diluted.

Sun competed without finding a cutting edge, but with their first serious attack of the half they worked the ball cross-field to allow Glenn O’Malley to break from the left and beat Ross Hampton.

Kings needed a quick fix at the start of the second half and looked to have got it when Armstrong broke for a one on one, but the striker was foiled by a good save.

Sun fashioned chances at the other end – poor finishing giving Kings a let off – but with the game in the doldrums, Jack Johnson was felled on the right and from the resultant free kick, the ball fell to Armstrong.

His shot was not a clean one, but eluded a forest of legs to roll over the line by the far post.

Kamil Rosiak, lurking by the post, was judged by the assistant to be offside, but the referee ruled that he hadn’t touched it and awarded the goal.

Sun felt hard done by on the night, but if Kings rode their luck, they still had more than enough to deserve the three points.
