Knight has Racing Club clearout

Manager Lee Knight say Racers will be unrecognisable this season from the side which has twice finished bottom of the Midland Combination Premier.

Only two players look set to survive the cull after a radical overhaul of the squad, with Chris Charles the latest player to be released.

However, Knight says the transformation was needed if Racing Club are to justify their increased spending power for the forthcoming campaign.

“Last season it wasn’t good enough, no matter how you try and gloss over it,” said Knight.

“We’ve been given funding to improve the side and if I don’t do that I’ll be on my way.

“Luke Fuller, who has looked awesome in pre-season, will be in the side and Craig Thomas has done really well, but they could be the only two from last season.”

Knight has been particularly active in the centre of defence where he has brought in Liam Doyle, who has been training with Leamington, the experienced Michael Crawford and Michael Batchelor, who rejected an offer from Studley to make the switch to Townsend Meadow.

“It was one area we needed to improve,” he said. “I have been after Michael since I took over and now we’ve got three really good centre-halves which will give me a bit of a headache.”

Keeper Tom Farmer will add further solidity at the back after moving from Stratford Town, while Knight expects big things from the pacy Myron Semper who has joined from Massey Ferguson and scored the only goal of the game in Saturday’s friendly win over Alvis.
