Knight: Racers’ treble dream is still on

Racing Club Warwick’s treble bid is still on according to manager Lee Knight.

The Racers were booted out of the Birmingham County Midweek Floodlit Cup last week after fielding an ineligible player in the 2-0 semi-final win over Black Country Rangers.

However, Knight remains confident they can at least get the game against the West Midlands Regional League side replayed after lodging an appeal with the Birmingham County FA.

“We’ve lodged an appeal and we’ll see what happens,” said Knight. “If we’re not in it, we’re not in it, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the door is still open.

“In one-off games, we fancy our chances to beat Rangers again and Gornal in the final.”

There was better news for the Townsend Meadow club on the pitch, with Saturday’s 3-0 semi-final first leg win at Knowle putting them in pole position to reach the final of the Les James Challenge Cup.

They followed it up on Tuesday night with a 1-0 success over Stockton in the semi-final of the Coventry Challenge Cup and will mow meet Coventry Alliance side Christ The King in the final at the Ricoh Arena on Friday April 27 (7.30pm).
