Leamington Hibs manager in X-rated rant

Leamington Hibs player-coach Rich Kay vented his anger at the match officials after his side suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Perrywood in Midland Combination Division Two.

Defensive errors were to blame for Hibs’ defeat, with all three Perrywood goals coming from glaring errors from the home side.

A mix-up at the back allowed Perrywood to take the lead and despite Cole Stephens bringing the hosts level, a poor clearance gifted the visitors a second before a goalkeeping fumble laid the third on a plate.

However, Kay pointed to an early disallowed goal for his side and referee intimidation as mitigating factors.

“It’s always difficult after such a long lay-off but I have to say the officials were appalling throughout the game,” said Kay.

“Perrywood continually bullied the ref from the first whistle and he just wilted.

“We scored a perfectly good goal to take the lead and then had to accept X-rated tackle after X-rated tackle that went unpunished.

“The game as a football contest was non-existent and the home side were continually let off despite direct abusive language from the home players towards the officials.

“Credit to my lads, they could easily of lost their heads.

“I’ve got two players with suspected ligament injuries and one with a big head gash.

Football is a physical game but that went way, way over the top for what is acceptable on a football pitch.”

Hibs return to league action tomorrow with a trip to Enville Athletic (2.30pm).
