Macbeth ensures there is no late drama for Hibs

Hibs started at a high tempo and Adam Edwards was denied by a fine save by the Barton keeper after a one-on-one.

Ryan Macbeth then wasted another chance when clean through, hurriedly screwing his shot wide.

Andy Yeates had a couple of goalbound efforts saved by the impressive Barton keeper before firing in another penalty in the 44th minute, scored at the second attempt after a retake for encroachment.

Barton had brief spell of pressure after the interval which produced their only shot of the game.

However, it was comfortable for goalkeeper Ollie Manuel and Hibs were able to secure the three points in the 70th minute, Matt Trinder providing the through ball for Macbeth to finish into the corner.

As Barton pressed for a way back into the game, Hibs missed a host of goalscoring chances on the counter, with Edwards denied by a fine fingertip save by the visiting keeper.

Player-coach Rich Kay claimed the final scoreline flattered Barton, who had gone into the game with real title intentions.

“Our tempo first-half and workrate in our pressing was excellent all over the pitch, which allowed us to dominate the game,” said Kay.

“To restrict a team in the top three to one shot on goal all game shows how well defensively we played as a team.

“And again we created a whole host of chances.”
