Scans have revealed long-serving Leamington defender James Mace sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the defeat at Guiseley.

Mace is the second players at Brakes to suffer the injury this season following on from Connor Gudger.

“It’s really disappointing news and not a great time to do it what with the way the NHS is going,” said Holleran.

“It’s bitterly disappointing for James, especially with him being so close to breaking the all-time appearance record at the club.

“But even at 35, if I had to put money on anyone coming back from this it would be Mace.”

Holleran has also shed some light on the departure of striker Jack Storer.

Storer joined up with AFC Telford after his release from Leamington last week and Holleran said a clean break was best for both parties.

“When we brought Jack in we were aware of all his plusses and minuses,” said Holleran of the 22-year-old. “We said we would give it a month and we gave it more than a month and it wasn’t working for both parties.”

Storer failed to score in his time at Brakes and missed a penalty in FA Trophy shootout defeat to Concord Rangers.
