Mace makes Brakes move

Leamington boss Paul Holleran has further strengthened his squad with the addition of former Hinckley United defender James Mace.

Mace joined Hinckley United from Atherstone Town in the summer of 2009, going on to make 68 appearances

The 26-year-old, who can play either right-back or centre-back, adds competition for places in an already strong Brakes rearguard.

Meanwhile, Brakes’ pre-season friendly at Nuneaton Town, which was scheduled for Tuesday August 2, has been cancelled by Holleran.

The decision was made due to a combination of player unavailability and niggling injuries within the squad.

Lee Downes, Alex Taylor and Jacob Blyth were the latest players to pick up knocks, with Blyth tearing ankle ligaments in the 3-1 home defeat to a Birmingham City XI.

The striker is expected to be out for two to four weeks, putting his participation in the season-opener at Hemel Hempstead on August 13 in doubt.

Brakes continue their pre-season campaign with a trip to Townsend Meadow tonight (Tuesday) to face Racing Club before entertaining a Coventry City XI tomorrow (both 7.45pm).
