New faces inspire Hibs to shock victory over the league leaders

Buoyed by three new signings, Leamington Hibs bounced back from a performance player-coach Rich Kay described as “dismal” to inflict the first Midlands Combination Division Two defeat on Badsey.

Fresh from a 3-0 defeat to Barton, Kay brought in Ash Knight, Filippo Mannina and Ricky Lee-Moore and was rewarded with a dominant performance.

Hibs opened up a two-goal cushion inside the opening 20 minutes and restricted Badsey to just one meaningful shot on target which came in the 70th minute.

The first goal was a great curled finish from the edge of the box from Adam Edwards and the striker doubled Hibs’ lead with a deft header after great wing play from Jon Byrne.

A sublime backheel from Zak Holyoake allowed Edwards to neatly convert a one- on-one to complete his second hat-trick of the season.

“The performance from start to finish was superb,” said Kay.

“The workrate and quality all over the pitch was excellent.

“Unlike previous games we have defended properly with Knight superb at centre-half and the front two of Harvey White and Adam Edwards running them ragged.

“The new players that have come in have freshened the squad up and added quality and competition for places.

“We now need to build on this result and start gaining some momentum.”
