New year, new start for Racing Club Warwick

Racing Club Warwick won 2-1 at Pilkington XXX on Saturday to secure their first win in 12 and open up a three-point gap on Midland Combination Premier basement side Castle Vale JKS.

The hosts went into the game in high spirits after seven points from their previous nine and opened the scoring in the third minute, Daniel Wilkes forcing the ball home at the second attempt after an initial save from Racers keeper Ryan Bennett.

Racing Club were behind for just six minutes, however, with Josh Tiff scoring from close range and went on to make it 2-1 in the 41st minute, Spencer Bradley finding the back of the net with a powerful strike.

Pilkington used increasingly robust methods to try and force their way back into the game, but Racing Club stood up well to secure their third away win of the campaign.

Racers have a fine chance to record back-to-back wins tomorrw when they travel to Castle Vale JKS.

Leamington Veterans kicked off 2014 with a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Sutton Town Vets.

Anthony Filice hit the post after a neat move involving Leigh Ireland and Steve Baker before Leamington went ahead through Michael Christie.

Filice hit the crossbar after a one on one with the Sutton keeper and Leamington were left to rue missed chances when Sutton equalised against the run of play just before half-time.

Baker was denied by the woodwork after the break, but Sutton had much the better of the half and confirmed their dominance with three late goals.
