Not good enough - Leamington manager unhappy as winless start goes on

Leamington continue to search for a first win of the new season this Bank Holiday weekend after a 3-0 defeat at Bury Town on Saturday with boss Scott Easterlow asking fans to stick with it.

Relegation has been followed by no wins in the opening four Southern League Premier Division Central fixtures and Easterlow said: “I don’t ever want to be that manager who hides away after a loss.

“Today we came up against a very good side, a side I feel is better equipped to win the league than Real Bedford - after seeing both sides that’s my honest opinion.

“With all that in mind we beat ourselves today as much as anything. I don’t want to go into details as feel that’s for me and the players.

“Unfortunately it was one of those days where everything goes wrong, we have been here before though and it is something you have to go through as gaffer.

“As a collective we all know today wasn’t good enough, no blaming one thing or another and that includes me as well. I made mistakes today.

“As always though you win together and lose together. The support the fans have showed us is something I have never seen before and the result will come. Stick with us.”

Meanwhile it is back to the drawing board for Leamington with two big Bank Holiday fixtures against Worcester City (Saturday) and Stourbridge (now moved to Tuesday, 7.45) to come this weekend.

Fans will not be segregated for the Worcester game and a big crowd is expected.

Neighbours, Racing Club Warwick, face a weekend derby double at Alvechurch on Saturday and at home to Stratford Town on Monday.

Leamington have been drawn at home to NPL side Ilkeston Town in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round while Racing Club will travel to Lye Town – both games will be played on Saturday, 5th September.

Leamington have signed Ajay Weston, 21, who spent last season in the Northern Premier League Premier Division with FC United of Manchester, helping them to a play-off place.

Ajay began his career with Forest Green Rovers and Cheltenham Town, before two years as a scholar at Huddersfield Town, then a year as a professional at Hull City, before signing a two year deal with Bolton Wanderers.

Easterlow said: “Ajay is left footed, naturally left sided, and is comfortable at left back or anywhere down the left really. He's got good qualities.”
