Opportunity missed for Kenilworth

EARLSWOOD TOWN 2 RACING CLUB WARWICK 1

Racing Club boss Curly O’Callaghan was left frustrated on Tuesday night after seeing his side come away empty-handed from Malthouse Lane despite dominating the game.

Nathan Edgington cancelled out the home side’s opener, but Racing Club were hit with a sucker punch when Earlswood broke to score the winner seconds after Ed Kostuck had wasted a gilt-edged opportunity.

It was one of a series of missed chances for Racers, with Josh Blake and Nathan Edgington also culpable, but O’Callaghan said he could not fault his players’ efforts against his side he rates as one of the best in the Midland Combination.

“I’m disappointed for the lads that they’ve not got anything out of the game,” said O’Callaghan.

“We’ve bossed the game for 75 per cent of the match and created six or seven chances that, on another night, we would have taken.

“I can’t fault the way we’ve gone about our business.

“But football’s like that. Sometimes it bites you on the backside and we’ll just pick ourselves up and move onwards and upwards.”

Racing Club will be looking to bounce back tomorrow when they host Pershore Town, but they will have to do it without Mark Anderson and Paul Wilkinson who are both unavailable.

Blake was withdrawn in midweek after a heavy fall left him suffering breathing problems, but it is hoped he will be fit to lead the line.

Racing then travel to Southam on Monday (3pm).
