Plenty of positives for Cranton

Racing Club Warwick gained a morale-boosting point at Bartley Green in midweek to add to their
cup win over Peugeot at the weekend.

A Jamie Huddlestone header with two minutes remaining rescued a 2-2 draw for The Racers in Staffordshire and helped moved them off the bottom of the Midland Combination table.

Nick Ford had earlier cancelled out Bartley Green’s opener and manager Ryan Cranton was delighted with the resilience shown by his side.

“To twice come from behind at a place like Bartley Green shows great character and I’m proud of the lads,” said Cranton, who gave a debut to former Bedworth and Coventry Copsewood striker Carl King.

“To score a couple of minutes from the end feels like a win and we definitely got what we deserved.”

The point built on an impressive
2-0 win at home to Coventry Alliance Premier Division side Peugeot on Saturday in the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup - Racers’ first win of the season.

Luke Swinnerton gave Racing Club a first-half lead before Alan Robinson curled home an 89th-minute second to confirm their progress into the next round.

“We knocked the ball around confidently for a side who hadn’t won all season.” said Cranton.

“It would be easy to look at the levels of the two sides and say the match would be a foregone conclusion, but that is not always the case.

“Teams from a lower level raise their game against higher sides and cup matches throw up strange results.

“However, there is no reason why we can’t go on to have a decent cup run.

Racing Club will meet another Coventry Alliance side in Triumph Athletic in the next round.

Tomorrow, Cranton’s side continue their quest for a first league win at Brocton (3pm).
