Powell and Clarke net trebles as Wardens stick nine past Shilton

Kenilworth Wardens were in commanding form last weekend, running out 9-0 winners against Shilton in Division One of the Coventry Alliance.

Shilton actually created the better early chances with one effort crashing back off the crossbar.

The let-off seemed to spur Wardens on and the home team added three quick goals through Rich Powell, Ash Clarke and Tom Shanley.

With Tom Griffith and Frazier Ritchie controlling the midfield, Wardens stepped up their second-half performance with both Powell and Clarke completing well-deserved hat-tricks.

Sam Taylor added to the tally from the penalty spot, with Rhys Toumy completing the scoring.

Wardens will be looking to make it six wins from six when they travel to Christ The King tomorrow.

Wardens Reserves slipped out of the Major Boyd-Carpenter Cup following a second-round defeat at AEI Rugby.

Both teams played some attractive football but it was AEI who got the upper hand with a goal in each half, the second as Wardens committed men forward in search of an equaliser, to secure their place in the third round.
