Racers go extra mile to hold on to Fuller

Racing Club Warwick boss Lee Knight has moved quickly to stave off interest in striker Luke Fuller.

Fuller produced another impressive display in Racers’ 3-1 friendly defeat at the hands of Redditch United on Saturday, with Martin Sockett’s side the latest to enquire about the 25-year-old’s availability.

However, while admitting Fuller deserves to play at a higher level, Knight says there is no reason it cannot be with Racing.

“Luke Fuller has committed for the full season and credit must go to [chairman] Bob Dhillon who put a package together,” said Knight.

“He will play at a higher level when the right time comes, but it will do him the world of good to stay with us for this season.

“Fingers crossed he can progress and go up the leagues with us.”

Despite conceding three sloppy goals in the Redditch reverse, Knight declared himself happy with the runout, which saw several fringe players given an opportunity.

“It was good workout for everyone. For 20 to 25 minutes of the second half I thought we looked the better side.

“It is a shame we couldn’t have come out with a positive result, but at this stage of the season it is all about fitness.”

Tomorrow, Racers entertain Daventry United (3pm), with Leamington the visitors to Townsend Meadow on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Racing Club will begin their Athium Midland Combination Premier campaign at Bolehall Swifts on Saturday August 13.

They then entertain Castle Vale JKS on August 20 before hosting Brocton the following Saturday.
