Racing Club boss refuses to look down

Racing Club Warwick suffered a 1-0 defeat at third-placed Dosthill Colts on Wednesday night to follow up Saturday’s 3-2 home reverse against Bartley Green.

However, despite his side remaining five points adrift of Alveston, manager Lee Knight refuses to contemplate the prospect of his side finishing bottom of the table for a second successive season.

“How we haven’t won the game against Dosthill I don’t know,” said Knight, who was absent for Saturday’s loss to Bartley.

“We were the better side by a country mile. We hit the post, the bar and had one cleared off the line in addition to one-on-ones and we should have been 3-0 up at half-time.

“We’ve got 15 or 16 players who are absolutely gutted we haven’t won.

“The only things missing are the results but I can’t ask for any more from the players.

“We’ve still got enough games against the teams around us to stay up.”

Troy Smith had given Racers the lead against Bartley on Saturday, but two goals just before half-time gave the visitors the advantage.

Leon Thomas pulled Racers level with this third goal in two games, but a Rory McFarlane strike five minutes from time sealed the win for Bartley.
