Racing Club derby rounds off busy period for Saints

Southam United go into the Easter period facing three away matches in quick succession, writes David Hucker.

Last Saturday’s home encounter with Walsall Wood in the first leg of the Les James Memorial Challenge Cup semi-final fell victim to the snowy weather and will now take place on Tuesday April 16.

Wednesday’s league match at Nuneaton Griff, which had already been postponed once, went the same way and the two side will try again on Monday May 6 (3pm).

Tomorrow, they travel to Walsall Wood for the second leg of the Challenge Cup semi-final.

This is followed by an Easter Monday match at Stafford Town and they round off with a local derby at Racing Club Warwick next Wednesday (7.45pm).

The loss of both fixtures denied Lee Knibbs’ team the opportunity to get back to winning ways, having gone five matches since beating Coventry Copsewood 2-1 in the Coventry Telegraph Challenge Cup quarter-final on February 26.

Draws at home against Brocton and away at Bolehall Swifts have been accompanied by three defeats.
