Year eleven and twelve boys will be hoping to gain entry to the successful programme, which the club took inhouse two years ago after several years with a third party provider.

With the programme allowing players to play at the highest level outside of professional football in the National U19 league, alongside the ECFA College league and of course the prestigious Midland Floodlit League, the Racing Club Academy was hugely oversubscribed for the current intake and goes from strength to strength.

Chairman Gary Vella said: 'We could not be happier with how things have gone since we took the step to run a programme in-house.

“With our brilliant coaches here, including a full time goalkeeper coach, Physiotherapist and a strength and conditioning coach, we ensure that all education money goes back into the programme to the benefit of the players and this includes fantastic media coverage for the lads from our partner On The Ball Media.

"We currently sit top of the National League having beaten Solihull Moors, Kidderminster, Redditch and Stourbridge and the development team remain unbeaten in the league so far as well as beating Nuneaton Borough in the ECFA Cup last week.”

The club provides education with a BTEC Level 3 up for grabs, equivalent to three 'A' Levels.

Vella added: “The education is of paramount importance and so we continue to offer the course with the highest level of UCAS points available, instead of choosing, for example, an NCFE course.

"This will give more options at the end of the scholarship and several lads went off to University at the end of last season proving you really can get the best of both worlds in playing football and gaining a great education via our partners HOET.

"The club also now employs more than ten academy lads directly, or via our partners, delivering coaching lessons for the community and Junior sides so has become a real valuable local asset that we are very proud of.”

The October trial takes place at Townsend Meadow on Tuesday 31st October from 9am until 330pm. E-mail [email protected] for more information.
