RUGBY TOWN: Would you like to be in a film? Extras wanted

Rugby Town’s Butlin Road stadium will become a movie set for a day next month, when scenes for the forthcoming production ‘Hanging in There’ will be filmed at the ground.

The feature film is being directed by Darren Scott – a well-known figure in the Warwickshire arts production world, and it is a comedy drama based on a true story written by a survivor of testicular cancer.

The majority of the movie has already been filmed in the county, and the shooting of the football match action sequence involving its leading character will be the final piece of footage to be captured, ahead of the premiere of the film later in the year in London.

Lawford Heath resident Darren has issued an invitation to the local community to come down to the ground and be part of this innovative project on Sunday March 13th.

He said: “It’s really fitting that we end filming here in Rugby, and we’re looking for extras to create a large football crowd scene. You won’t need any previous experience, but you will get a chance to do some ‘acting’, see how a film is made, and hopefully have a lot of fun.

“Everyone who joins us as an extra on the day will be recognised in the film’s end credits and whilst we set out on this project with modest aspirations, we are also hopeful that it will do very well too.”

The film will be adopted by the Orchid Male Cancer Trust as part of their national awareness week and has been produced alongside the mantra of ‘not just making a movie but trying to make a difference’.

Darren continued: “We have been overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of goodwill that has enabled us put this project together, and Rugby Town F.C. have been brilliant in supporting our final day of filming and we’re very grateful for their help. The majority of the cast and crew live in Warwickshire and I’m hoping they can be there too when we finally wrap filming on this unique project.”
