The former Southam United and Stockton boss took over at Acre Close in the summer of 2014 and led the club to two cup successes in his first season in charge.

However, the league title eluded him, with Town missing out on the championship in the final match of the season and they currently sit 18 points behind leaders Folly Lane after a disappointing start to 2015/16.

And, after 35 years in football, Shearsby says the time is right to walk away from the game.

Work and personal commitments are making giving the team everything an impossibility and I feel I am letting them down by not giving 100 per cent,” said Shearsby,

“It’s a great club and great bunch of lads and they deserve better.

“I’d like to thank them all for their efforts over last 18 months and wish them all the best for the rest of season and future.”

Town have yet to line up a replacement, with father and son duo Alan and Neil Stacey set to take charge for Saturday’s trip to Woodlands.
