Stockton suffer extra-time exit

Stockton bowed out the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup with a
3-2 extra-time defeat at Bulkington Sports & Social.

Stockton went a goal down in the first half before Greg Sherrington equalised with a header from a set piece.

Goalkeeper Luke Malin continued his good form with some smart saves to keep the scores level, but he could do little to prevent Stockton’s second.

Barry Shearsby changed the formation as Stockton went in search of an equaliser and was rewarded when Josh Cole fired home from close range with five minutes remaining.

However, it was Bulkington who prevailed in the extra 30 minutes.

Whitnash, who have seen Keith Orme return to the club in a coaching capacity, remain top of Division Two of the Coventry Alliance following a 5-2 win over Highway Coundon.

The Coventry visitors employed a 5-4-1 formation and it took the home side 34 minutes to break the deadlock, with Glenn Webb finishing smartly.

A defensive mix-up minutes later brought Highway level and they subjected the home side to serious pressure at the start of the second period.

Dave Care settled any Whitnash nerves with a superb effort in the 50th minute and Tommy Friend made it 3-1 mid-way through the second half.

Highway missed the target with a spot kick before Care doubled his tally and, after the visitors had pulled it back to 4-2 following another penalty award, Friend completed the scoring.

Kenilworth Wardens lost 5-0 to Brinklow, while their reserve side beat Brinklow Reserves 5-4 on penalties after their Boyd Carpenter Cup clash ended 2-2 after 120 minutes.
