Shearsby walked out on the club citing a lack of ambition after believing they were going to leave the Midland Combination to rejoin the Coventry Alliance League.

However, Town remain in Midland Combination Division Two for the 2013/14 campaign and boosted by an influx of new players, believe they can win the title.

Former Copsewood Ladies and Hawkesmill Sports boss Mick Conneely is the man tasked with delivering the trophy, with ex-Crewe Alexandra midfielder Terry Anderson joining him as first-team coach.

Completing the managerial triumvirate is former Brakes boss John Williams, who despite his 78 years still retains an infectious enthusiasm for the game and sees no reason why Kenilworth cannot support a Midland Alliance side.

“We’re not playing at the standard we should be playing at,” said Williams, who had two spells in charge at The Windmill. “We should be playing at a higher level. The infrastructure is there.”

Williams has recruited nine new players, the majority of whom were with him at Coventry Spires last season.

With last season’s squad also being given a chance to impress, he is expecting 33 players at the tomorrow’s first training session.

“All the new signings could play at a higher level and the objective is to get a good side together,” he said.

“If we finish in the top four we should get promoted but our aim is to win it.”
