The Northern Premier League side opened up with some crisp first-time passing, but it was Brakes who threatened first, Lee Chilton firing in a shot that eluded both keeper Jon Worsnop and the net by the narrowest of margins.

Liam Daly and Ricky Johnson were inches away from providing goalscoring connections before Daly opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a fiercely driven free-kick.

Ryan Giggs’ brother Rhodri and and Mike Norton were among the half-time substitutes for United and Norton, who netted twice in an FA Vase defeat for Leamington at Curzon Ashton, showed he had not lost his touch with a mazy run into the danger zone which just lacked a finish.

Johnson then doubled Brakes’ lead with a superb header from Stephan Morley’s delivery which left replacement keeper James Spencer groping thin air.

Brakes completed the scoring when a fumble from Spencer allowed Towers to lift the ball over the stranded keeper and into the roof of the net.

Brakes: Tony Breeden; Paul McCone; Stephan Morley; Joe Magunda; Liam Daly; Josh Green; Jamie Towers; Craig Owen Ricky Johnson; Lee Moore; Lee Chilton. Substitutes: James Mace, Matt Dodd, Sam Adkins, Alex Taylor, Stefan Moore, Lewis Fenney.
