Whitnash Town still on course for a Ricoh Arena cup double

Whitnash Town are through to their second Ricoh Arena final after a 2-1 victory over Coventry Copsewood in the semi-final of the Coventry Charity Cup at Racing Club Warwick.

Whitnash took the lead in the 13th minute when Andy McInley was fouled and Craig Watkin slotted home the resulting penalty.

In a feisty first half which featured six cautions and a melee, Copsewood had a 16th-minute effort cleared off the line while Scott sliced over following a corner.

Copsewood were level in the 53rd minute after Bowden slotted home from the spot.

However, parity had only been restored for eight minutes when Whitnash were awarded the third spot kick of the match and up stepped Watkin again to score.

Whitnash moved into second spot in the Coventry alliance Premier Division on Saturday courtesy of a convincing 8-0 win over Bulkington.

The home side started brightly and scored inside a minute for the second week running, with Lee Scott heading home Craig Watkin’s corner.

Further goals from Watkin, Ross Briscoe, Howard Forinton, Jake Montgomery and Josh Cole gave Town a 6-0 half-time lead, with Cole getting his second after the break and Mike Ellis also notching.

Whitnash Reserves made it a good day for the Acre Close men with a convincing 5-0 demolition of Stockton Reserves in the Stockton Charity Cup semi-final.

James Urquhart (2), Luke Cole, Harry Easterlow and veteran Ash Walker were on target for Scott Easterlow’s side who will face Gurdwara GNP in the final.
