Rugby Gaels first game at Newbold Rugby Club ended in a narrow 4 point defeat to Sons of Erin in an entertaining encounter.

When Owen Batchelor scored a goal Rugby were on top, however when a fortuitous shot from distance evaded Joe O’Brien in the Rugby goal it meant that both sides went in at the break 1 goal and 4 points each.

The game changed early in the second half when Sons of Erin scored a goal from a penalty. The Gaels responded with scores from the excellent Ben O’Riordan and captain Lewis Fairgrieves to narrow the gap to 1 point with time running out.

However the Northamptonshire side broke forward and scored their third goal right on the final whistle.
