Games medal is everything to Beddoes

Former Kings High School pupil Emma Beddoes hailed “the pinnacle” of her career after claiming a mixed doubles bronze at the Commonwealth Games alongside Alison Waters.

The duo lost 11-7, 11-8 to top seeds Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro in the semi-final but bounced back the following day to complete a routine 11-3, 11-5 success over Australian duo Rachael Grinham and Kasey Brown.

Beddoes and Waters stormed through the opening game, forcing the second seeds to swap sides for the second but it had little effect as the English pair’s momentum carried them through to a medal.

“We probably didn’t play the way we can play in the semis - so to come back and play the best we’ve ever played together is a real testament to us as a partnership,” said Beddoes.

“It’s the pinnacle of my career. To come away with a medal means everything to me.”
