Golden day for Spa swimmers

LEAMINGTON Spa Swimmers accumulated 113 personal bests and 14 Midland Qualifying Times (MQT) at the Nuneaton Qualifying Gala.

In the 11/12 category Harry Manship’s superb performance saw him take bronze in the 200m IM and 3 glorious golds in the 100m breast in 1.16.53, the 50m free in 27.68 and a fantastic 100m free heat seeing his time tumble under the minute in 59.56, recording competition best times (CBT) in all 3 events. 50m free finalist Finn Linton clocked up 1.12.79 in the 100m back to take silver and with a pb in the 50 fly collected bronze with 34.14.

Connell Parker, 10, had a great day recording a CBT of 40.38 in the 50m back gaining gold, before slashing 10 secs of his 200m back time in 3.06.68. Parker later secured a 50m free finalist place with team mate Edward Jolly.

Whilst Megan Stanton, 10, received gold in her debut 100m fly, recording a fabulous CBT in 1.30.58 and later achieving silver in the 50m back before securing her first MQT in the 200m back in 3.00.80.

In the 15/over category, Peter Clark, 15, took silver in the 50 back in 30.68 whilst Ellen Stone was rewarded with 2 excellent breaststroke silvers in both the 200m and 100m events.

Hannah Greenshield produced a great MQT in the 50m free earning her a finalist place, before winning bronze in the 100m back and Sarah Smith collected bronze in the 50m back in 33.16.

In the 14 year age group Nick Payne had a fantastic heat in the 200m back event knocking an amazing 12 seconds off his pb before picking up a bronze in the 50m breast, just behind Josh James who took a terrific silver in 37.38. Max Clarke had a brilliant 50m free race making the final with 27.79 whilst Jess Nash collected a well-deserved bronze in the 50m back in 33.78 and later added a MQT for the 200m event in 2.30.16 with an awesome 5 sec pb. Team mate Sophie Vale took bronze in the 50m breast in 37.23.

Other MQT were achieved by Peter Clark, 15, in the 200m IM, 2.21.34 and Ellen Stone, 15, in the 100m breast, in 1.19.52, Ruby O’Brien, 13, powered her way to a fabulous hat trick with the 200IM, 2.34.78, 100m free, 1.03.34 and 200m free in 2.15.34.

Twelve-year-old Felicity Dempster’s fabulous 6 sec. pb gained her the 200m IM, and another great pb in the 100m free also rewarded her a finalist place with 1.05.22 while 50m free finalist, Teigan Parker, 11, added another in the 200m breast in a great time of 3.11.00.
