County call leaves Lane feeling good

Princethorpe College sixth-former Dan Lane has accepted an offer to captain the Warwickshire under-18 boys’ team.

The talented Kenilworth Golf Club member expressed his pride at being offered such a prestigious post.

“I had hoped that I might be selected but to actually be given the chance to captain Warwickshire is a really good feeling.”

Lane, who plays off a handicap of 2.7, is looking forward to the new season after an injury setback forced him to take time away from the fairways in 2012.

He said: “I have been working hard in the college gym four times a week to improve my overall strength and fitness and I hope this will kick in once the pre-season games start to take place.”

Lane is currently in the midst of his A-levels as he targets a place at St Andrew’s reading Economics and head of Princethorpe College Sixth Form Margaret Robinson said the 17-year-old was a role model for the aspiring younger pupils.

“Dan is a very modest young man who excels both academically and on the sporting field,” said Robinson.

 Hardy golfers braved the driving rain as Kenilworth Golf Club hosted a Team Shotgun competition at Crewe Lane on Sunday.

The quartet of Sam O’Sullivan, Simon Bisp, Adrian Penny and Robin Hopkins mastered the difficult conditions to run out winners with 81 points.

Barry Lemel, David Wright, James Knight and Michael Webb finished runners-up on countback from James Lamond, Mike Barnwell, Tony Sollis and Stephen Westley after both teams scored 80 points.
