Golf was one of the first sports to return after the restrictions were relaxed and it has resulted in people taking a new interest.

Rugby is a private members club located close to the centre of the town and, in line with guidance, they have introduced a tee booking system to ensure every member gets the opportunity to play.

And the club’s membership and marketing director Adrian Evans has been delighted with the response.

“In terms of new membership, we have actually had 46 new members which is incredible and I think everyone is amazed with the number we have pulled in,” he said.

“I think golf clubs, in general, are doing reasonably well but here we are doing fantastically well and people are enjoying the course.

“We were allowed to keep a couple of greenkeepers working and it has paid huge dividends for us.

“We have introduced a tee booking system. Traditionally, we were always a club where you could just turn up and play provided you are a member.

“But the guidance we had was to introduce a booking system and in the first couple of weeks back it was manic.

“Now things have relaxed a bit and this week we have introduced fourball groups at 10-minute intervals, which allows us to get more members on the course.”

Evans also expressed his thanks to members who were still willing to pay their subs while the course was shut during the lockdown.

“Our membership year runs from April 1 so I talked to the members, via our board of directors, and asked them if they would continue to pay their subs,” he added.

“Obviously, it was right at the end of our year when we were locked down so we were up against it but our members continued to support us.

“All of our revenue goes back into the club and into the course and our members have come through for us and that is really pleasing for all of us here.”
