Gulliver aims to build on Gold Cup success

Nine-time Lakeside world champion Trina Gulliver claimed her first title of 2014 with victory in the BDO Gold Cup at Frimley Green.

Southam-born Gulliver, who last won the title in 2003, rolled back the years with wins over Michelle Andrews, Tracy Bishop, Tina Neylon and Stacey Ellis before dispatching Roz Bulmer 3-0 in the semi-finals.

She faced 2001 Gold Cup champion Nikki Furse in the final and the pair traded the opening legs before Gulliver surged ahead, sealing a 3-1 success with double 18.

She said: “I am delighted to win this title for a third time.

“There is always something special about winning on the Lakeside stage - this is a Golden Cup for a Golden Girl.

“To win my first title of 2014 means a lot and I plan to use this as a springboard to more success this year.”
