Hall whitewashes host club’s Pike to win the Warwickshire Championship

Kenilworth’s Chris Hall beat home favourite Jason Pike 3-0 in the men’s final of the Warwickshire Championships, which was staged for the first time at Leamington Tennis Club last weekend.

Despite the scoreline, the top seed was pushed all the way by the Leamington captain in an entertaining, well-attended showpiece.

There was home success in the over-35 final, with Leamington’s Pete Knowles beating Irish over-35 champion and clubmate Nick Staunton 3-2 in a 90-minute battle which left both players asking for more time between rallies as they were so exhausted.

Geoff Redfurn (Leamington) won the over-60s’ title, while Phil Hartley (Leamington) won the B grade.

The women’s championship was won by Leamington’s Leonie Holt.

Leamington will be looking to repeat their success at next year’s tournament after organisers confirmed the tournament will be returning to the Guy’s Cliffe Avenue venue for 2016.
