However, after a training ride crash just days before the National Road and Time Trial Championships left her with two fractured ribs, just appearing at her first Games will be an achievement for the 24-year-old.

And the Team Wales rider said the disruption was not as detrimental to her form as she expected.

“After having three weeks off the track, I was expecting to get on and not have any track legs whatsoever,” Horne told , speaking to britishcycling.org.uk. “But thankfully it has gone a lot better than expected. I’m not too far off my best [times] which is really good.

“The feeling in camp is really good. Everyone is really supportive of each other and we are all excited for the Commonwealth Games.”

Glasgow 2014 will be the first time Horne has pulled on the Welsh jersey at a Commonwealth Games, although she has been a key member of the set-up, competing in the last two Track World Cup series’ for Wales’ Team USN.

There, along with Elinor Barker and Amy Roberts, she won two World Cup medals competing in the team pursuit.

Earlier this year, Horne also got her first opportunity to ride for Great Britain on the road at the Friends’ Life Women’s Tour, but it is on the track where she is hoping to make her mark.

“The individual pursuit is my main focus. I’d like to give a strong performance.

“Given my injury I’m not going to be in my best shape, so I have to go out there and do my best.

“It’s my first multi-sport event so I’m looking forward to embracing that and really enjoying the event.”

 Warwick’s John Stevenson’s quest for an elusive victory goes on after a third place at the 20th running of the Tour of the Wolds in Lincolnshire.

The 50-mile race split early on with Stevenson - who has had a string of podium finishes this season without claiming outright victory - instigating a breakaway which saw five riders stay away to the finish.

The Team Jewson-MI Racing rider attacked four times during the final two-mile incline only to be repeatedly reeled in by his rivals and he eventually lost out in the sprint to former team-mate Paul Stubbs.
