Horne in record-breaking form

Kenilworth cyclist Ciara Horne secured two gold medals and a bronze at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Track Championships at the Newport Velodrome in South Wales.

The Brotherton Cycles rider clinched an unexpected bronze in the 500m time trial, setting a personal best in the process, and then twice smashed the BUCS record on her way to victory in the individual pursuit.

After breaking the long-standing record by seven seconds in qualifying, Horne caught rival Corrine Hall after eight laps (2k) of the final.

Despite catching Hall, Horne continued on and shaved another three seconds off her earlier record, finishing just two seconds outside her personal best.

Horne then went on to win the scratch race, working together with fellow breakaway riders Hall and Kayleigh Brogan to lap some of her rivals before producing a big attack in the final stages to seal victory.

Horne now moves on to the road and time trial season, where she will be hoping to continue her sparkling form.
