International debut ends in European Gold for Perry

Kenilworth’s Sarah-Jane Perry had an international debut to remember as England claimed the European Squash Championships in Amsterdam for the 35th time in 36 years.

Perry, who has risen to 18th in the world on the back of an impressive run of form, picked up her first two caps in pool wins over Belgium and Germany.

She contributed by beating Germany’s Loreline Pira 11-5, 11-3, 11-4, before going on to overcome Belgian Caroline Sayegh 11-5, 11-8, 11-8.

Perry was left out of the knockout stages, where England beat France before edging out Ireland in a tight final thanks to a win from Jenny Duncalf in the deciding match.

Perry’s club colleague Jenny Wright was a member of the Wales team that finished fifth.

Wright lost to Cyrielle Peltier of France but then beat Tinne Gillis of Belgium and Germany’s Annika Wiese in straight games.
