Internationals to take centre stage at Victoria Park

Britain’s top women bowlers will be bidding for glory in Leamington over the next six days.

The town’s famous Victoria Park greens are hosting the British Isles Women’s Bowls Council (BIWBC) International Series and British Isles Championships from today until Tuesday.

Teams from England, Ireland, Jersey, Scotland and Wales will be bidding for honours during the event, which is expected to draw spectators from across the British Isles.

Hosts England will be bidding to win the team title for the third consecutive year and will be captained by three-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ellen Falkner from Cambridgeshire.

She will be joined in the team by her Glasgow 2014 teammates Sian Honnor and Sophie Tolchard, while Warwickshire interest is provided by Jamie-Lea Winch.

Their first match will be on Sunday against fierce rivals Scotland (2pm).

The action gets under way this afternoon at 3pm with England taking on Wales in the fours.
