Jackson brothers geared up for national rally campaign

Warwick brothers Jonathan and Matthew Jackson are set to kick-start their rally season this weekend in the opening round of the REIS Get Connected BTRDA Gravel Championship - the GMF Motor Factors Wyedean Forest Rally.

After a season competing in the BRC Challenge - the support series to the British Rally Championship in 2011 - both will now switch to the national championship for 2012 as they gain valuable experience across the variety of forest events UK rallying has to offer.

However, this time they will be in different classes and not rivals as was the case in 2011 - where Jonathan came away with third overall co-driver in the Super 1000 Rally Championship.

A successful trial event on the Cambrian Rally at the end of last season resulted in Matthew, 17, being joined for a year-long campaign by 16-year-old co-driver Rhys Price.

The pair will once again compete in Jackson’s newly rebuilt Super 1000 specification Nissan Micra and are set to tackle the BTRDA Gravel Championship and selected tarmac events which make up the Super 1000 Championship.

Twenty-two-year old Jonathan is set to compete in the rallyschool.co.uk Rally First category of the BTRDA series with Junior 1000 graduate, Ben Friend.

The forthcoming Wyedean Rally is to be the pair’s first event together aboard the Formula 1000 specification Nissan Micra.

The Rally First category is designed to allow those with minimal budgets to compete on stages across the UK and is the perfect stepping stone for junior competitors.

Matthew, who is currently studying Motorsport Engineering at Coventry University, is also pleased to announce a new partnership with The Natural Wood Floor Company for the 2012 season;

“It’s been widely documented since I began rallying that I’ve managed to compete on the tiniest of budgets,” said Matthew.

“So to have The Natural Wood Floor Company come onboard for this year is just fantastic, and it will release some of the financial burden on us for the time being.

“Of course, I will always welcome any further sponsorship to help us through this year.

“Anyone who joins us does so at an exciting time, with the events we have coming up this year being the best in Britain and it will be brilliant to have sponsors with us to enjoy such prestigious events.”
