Jackson helps guide Lepley to championship success

The event, based at the Anglesey Race Circuit complex in north Wales, saw Jackson and driver George Lepley, 15, enter the two-day event with high hopes of glory despite a string of recent problems and retirements.

A strong opening day saw them exit the final dark stage with a lead of more than half a minute over their nearest rivals, giving them their second maximum points score of the year, following the pair’s first win together in August.

However, the Citroen C1 crew were left “devastated” the following day when a mechanical failure ruled them out of the event.

“Naturally, we were devastated that such a good start to the event was ruined by a factor that was completely out of our hands,” said Jackson.

“George had driven a fantastic event before then, considering it was only his second event in the car - the performance on the opening day defies belief that he’s still just 15 years old.”

Despite the retirement, fate would take one final twist towards the end of the event when Jackson’s main title rival retired on the penultimate stage, handing victory to the 23-year-old, who became the youngest-ever co-driver to win the championship.

“The events of the weekend were unbelievable,” said Jackson “To think, in the morning all hope of winning had gone, but it proves it’s important never to discount anything in this sport.

“I’m over the moon to have clinched the title.”

Jackson is now looking for backers to join him in the next step of his rallying career, with co-drivers providing a cost effective way of promoting a brand.
