Jones’ late double adds gloss to OLs rout

A late consolation try was all the visitors had to show having been totally outplayed by a demonstration of fast open 15-man rugby exhibited by the home team.

Old Leamingtonians took their opening Midlands Three West (South) game to the visitors from the kick-off and the first phase of play created an opening which allowed captain Mark Foley to cross for the first of ten tries for the hosts.

The second try came shortly after, with returning prop Nick Bingham touching down following a surge from the edge of the 22.

Further first-half tries were scored by centre Pete Smith, winger Rob Ridler (2) and back-row Will Johnson. Four conversions from Foley gave OLs a 38-0 half-time lead.

OLs were playing into a strong wind after the interval, but the pattern of the game hardly changed.

The home side continued to win good forward ball and the manner of play of the first half was continued with the fast backs repeatedly breaching the visitors defence.

Further tries followed, with hooker Chris Huckvale scoring the pick of them after a slick passing move.

Full-back Jack Jones was brought into the action for the hosts and within minutes he had started and finished a defence-splitting move to score the first of his two tries.

Smith completed the rout late in the game, with Foley converting a further three tries in the second stanza.
