Kenilworth Ladies clinch title

Kenilworth Ladies clinched the Warwickshire Division Two title with victory at Birmingham University.

Kenilworth’s task was made easier by the students only being able to field four players.

However the visitors started on the back foot, with Sue Bailey going down to defeat in five.

Carolyn Lindsay won in four and Natalie Townsend secured the match win, also in four, before Chloe Pearson claimed a straight-games win at number one string, dropping just four points in the process.

Kenilworth are now eyeing a treble, with a Warwickshire Cup final clash with West Warwicks and a National Clubs Championship match against Pontefract on the horizon.

Kenilworth men’s 2nds gained promotion from Warwickshire Division Three despite being denied the runners-up spot by final-match opponents Knowle.

Kenilworth went into the encounter seven points clear of their rivals, but despite wins for Ian Cochrane and Phil Evans, Knowle gained the match victory on rubbers won, which enabled them to pip Kenilworth to second spot in the division.

Kenilworth men’s 3rds defeated visitors Polesworth to guarantee their Division Four survival.

Alan Crane went down in four, but captain Dawn Ashford came back from 2-1 down to win in five and level for the hosts.

Roger More won in four and the final two games both went to deciders.

Ben Holden came back from 2--0 down, only to lose 9-7 in the fifth, while Paul Murphy also lost the first two games, but rallied to take the next three 9-2, 9-3, 9-2.
