Kenilworth Runners’ Voice proves to be lightning over Thunder Run course

Marie Voice made a fine return to running after a study-induced break, with the Kenilworth Runners athlete following up a ninth-place finish at the DK10k with victory at the Thunder Run 10k.

Starting and finishing at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club and utilising rolling country lanes near the village of Swindon, the DK10k is one of the largest midweek 10k races in the Midlands with more than 1,100 finishers.

Pete Matthews ran his first 10k road race in nearly a yearto claim 38th position in 38:46, with Voice clocking 44:23 for ninth female.

The race was won by Andrew Ridley of Colchester Harriers in 32:14.

Voice then went on to claim her maiden race victory at the Thunder Run 10k on Sunday.

The 10k route utilises the same off-road course that hosts the 24hr Thunder Run later in the year and Voice found some of the more technical sections to her liking, crossing in 16th place overall and first female.

Later on in the day, Matthews and Richard Simkiss teamed up to enter the male pairs six-hour mountain bike enduro race.

The object is to complete as many laps of the 6.5-mile course as possible within the time limit and the duo completed ten laps to finish approximately 43rd out of 70 teams.

Kenilworth Runners’ Jack Blakemore dipped below 18 minutes for the first time at Telford parkrun 11.

The veteran of 62 parkruns was making his Telford debut and made full use of the fast course and being pulled by his dog to clock 17:54, crossing the line in fifth.

Kenilworth Runners’ Kev Hope was the first club member to finish Coventry parkrun 167, coming home seventh in a course PB-equaling 17:43.

Of the seven Kenilworth Runners to finish, Sally Hicks was the first female, coming home fifth lady in 23:24.

A record 516 finishers took part in the free-to-enter 5k.

Neil Smith was the only Kenilworth Runner taking part at Brueton parkrun 145, finishing 22nd in a new course PB of 20:53.
