Kenilworth’s Perry nets 2013 Breakthrough award

Kenilworth Squash Club’s Sarah-Jane Perry has been named Women’s Squash Association’s Breakthrough Player of the Year for 2013.

Squash legend Sarah Fitzgerald presented Perry with the trophy in Penang, Malaysia, during the World Squash Championships.

Until a serious back injury halted her progress in September, Perry had won more WSA titles in the previous 12 months than any other player.

She made a full recovery and hopes to rise from her current world ranking of 16 during 2014.

Perry, who described the award as “a massive honour” bowed out in the second round of the World Championships to Ireland’s Madeline Perry.

In a marathon match lasting just over an hour, the Kenilowrth player went down 7-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.
