Khalsa given late scare by battling Doncaster side in five-goal thriller

Hosting the experienced Doncaster side, Khalsa had to contain the visitors for much of the first half despite starting brightly and coming close through Aaron Nagra whose goal-bound effort was cleared off the line.

The hosts took a surprise lead before half time with Nagra drilling a short corner into the goal.

This gave Khalsa the confidence to dominate the second half with Jas Singh and Jo Colantino linking up well in midfield.

Jay Nagra was the provider for Khalsa’s second as he unleashed a counter attack which lead to Alex Idoine rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into the empty net.

Aaron Nagra was again involved in Khalsa’s third, playing a defence-splitting ball through to Idoine who scored with a cheeky lob.

Refusing to accept defeat, Doncaster came back at their hosts and two quick-fire goals in the last eight minutes made it an uncomfortable finale for Khalsa.

But the hosts held firm, stoutly defending a short corner in the dying seconds.

Khalsa 2nds dominated their top of the table fixture with Rugby & East Warwick .

Central midfielders Will Kenney-Herbert and Bhavan Singh Thiara put in strong performances but it was man of the match Savan Singh Lall who opened the scoring for the hosts with a drilled shot from the top of the D.

Khalsa’s defence had an easy day mainly due to the running and break-down play of the midfield pair.

Tireless work from Adrian Betts and Ben Burton ensured in-form pair Lall and Anit Chudasma got as much ball as possible.

Kenney Herbert finished the game in style with a reverse stick rocket to seal a superb team performance.

Khalsa 3rds took three points from their game at Stratford.

Bupinder Singh Sidhu struck early for the visitors before Sanj Hayer fired in from a well worked penalty corner routine.

Stratford pulled one back in the second half but man of the match Jiwan Singh Sidhu sealed the points for Khalsa from a penalty corner.
