King, 20, beat drivers from 16 other nations to win a coveted place on the FIA Institute YDEA programme.

Led by former F1 driver Alex Wurz and 2001 World Rally champion co-driver Robert Reid, it offers a fully-funded training programme to help drivers develop their motor sport careers, while increasing safety skills and promoting fairness and responsibility on and off the track.

The qualifying event at the ANWB Test and Training Centre tested participants on their driving abilities, fitness and off-track skills. Winners of the five other regional qualifying events will join Stoneleigh-based King on the YDEA in 2015.

King is also a member of the MSA Team UK national squad, undertaking a one-on-one coaching programme with MSA performance manager Andy Meyrick.

In preparation for the YDEA qualifier he also received a bespoke preparation day led by MSA coach Bradley Ellis and MSA academy manager Greg Symes.

King said: “Each country only got to nominate one driver, so just to be chosen by the MSA was huge.

“However, to actually win my qualifying event and earn a place on the YDEA is incredible and an amazing opportunity that I’m determined to make the most of.”

Rob Jones, MSA chief executive, added: “We have been working with Jordan for a number of years while he has progressed along the MSA Academy talent development pathway and have always believed that he has great potential.”
