Last-16 exit for Beaton at fourth UK Open qualifier

Steve Beaton had an impressive run to the fifth round of the fourth Speedy Services UK Open qualifier in Wigan last Sunday.

The Bronzed Adonis beat Matt Clark 6-0 in the opening round before seeing off Roland Scholten (6-1), Alex Roy (6-4) and Kevin Thomas (6-5).

He eventually bowed out with a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Gary Anderson.

Leamington duo Nigel Heydon and Jamie Atkins also took part, with Heydon making it through to the fourth round before losing to Paul Amos and Atkin bowing out in the second round to Darren Webster.

Robert Thornton beat Jamie Caven 6-4 in the final.
