A good start by the hosts saw the match evenly poised at the half-way point but for the second week in a row, Spa found themselves outtgunned in the second half, during which Coventry Avenue outscored the home team by two shots to one.

Spa lost all six rinks, with Ray White (22-21) and Dave Gardner (22-20) both suffering narrow defeats. Bill Griffin (29-15), Dave Turner (23-15), Malcolm Wickens (19-13) and Pete Higgins (36-8), who actually led 6-2 after five ends, were the other vanquished skips.

An 18-17 victory for John Harris was not enough to give Avenue victory in their three-rink triples at home to Norgren, with the visitors claiming a 59-35 success.

Avenue then went on to edge two tight triples encounters against Snitterfield and Stratford.

Ron Walton (21-11), Andy Smith (19-10) and Adam Smith (23-16) skipped wins in a 89-80 win at Snitterfield, while a 22-8 victory for Phil Wadland in their clash with Stratford proved pivotal.

It was the only success for Avenue in the five-rink encounter, with Ron Walton claiming a draw as Avenue pipped their visitors 85-84.
