Leamington Powerlifter Smashes Records to Secure British Championship Spot
Gabinder Cheema has officially qualified for the British Powerlifting Championships following a record-breaking performance at the West Midlands Qualifier on February 8th.
Competing in the Men’s Masters 1 Equipped 90kg category, Gabinder posted a lift of 160kg bench press to secure his place on the national stage this coming March.
Gabinder trains at the Nelson Gym on Adelaide Road under the watchful eye of his father and coach, Nirmal Cheema. Gabinder now holds the West Midlands regional records in two different weight classes.
His recent 160kg lift set the new benchmark for the 90kg category, adding to his existing record of 172.5kg in the 100kg category.
His wife Sandeep said "We are all incredibly proud and can't wait to see him compete at the British Championships next month."
Gabinder will now begin his final weeks of preparation before representing the region at the national finals.
