The last three Ladies World Championships were held in Paris, Melbourne and Newport, Rhode Island, respectively - so the bar was high.

LTCC chairman Guy Stanton orchestrated the hosting bid.

”It’s a coup for the club, but it’s also a boost for the town,” said Stanton.

Leamington is the spiritual home of tennis: the Tennis Court Club is the world’s oldest tennis club.

Leamington is the birthplace of lawn tennis. The first lawn tennis club was established in the town and the Renshaw twins - the best British players you’ve never heard of - were born here.”

Leamington’s rich tennis heritage may have lent credibility and historical context, while the quality of the town’s amenities - hotels, restaurants, shopping, heritage attractions and theatre - added substance.

Stanton believes the Tennis Court Club’s superb facilities, with its fine Regency dining room and beautifully-appointed bar went in its favour, too.

He added: “Also our location: Leamington’s accessibility by road, rail and air was a great positive given that the event is likely to attract players and spectators from the UK and abroad.”

Cllr Sue Gallagher, Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture applauded the news

”We’re delighted to welcome another world-class sporting event to the town.

“It’s good to keep our profile high and the championships will bring business for the district’s hotels, B&B’s shops and restaurants.

“We’re keen to support the club in making a success of the Ladies’ World Championships.”

Chair of the Ladies Real Tennis Association, Alex Garside said: “The LRTA is delighted that Leamington Tennis Court Club is hosting the Ladies’ World Championships.

“In light of the club’s history, it seemed appropriate that it should have this opportunity.”

The 2015 Ladies Real Tennis World Championships will be staged from April 13-19.

The week will comprise open singles and doubles tournaments in addition to a handicap doubles event. Spectators will be very welcome.

Since opening its doors to ladies in 2008, LTCC has become the host for the LRTA’s annual ladies’ doubles competition while world champion Claire Vigrass is an honorary life member.

The club employs two qualified tennis professionals and holds regular Tennis Academy sessions for male and female players of all ages and all abilities.
