Made to measure bowlers

Warwick Boat Club provided the venue as bowls club members from the host club and Lillington received an intensive two-hour training session in the correct procedures of marking for visually impaired bowlers.

The instruction, under the guidance of county coach Malcolm Raper, was held in preparation for an English National Association of Visually Handicapped Bowlers event to be held at Victoria Park later this month. The assistance of volunteers to act as markers is essential in helping to make the event a success.

Visually impaired bowlers have a string to mark the line of play. Lengths are also marked in yards and the marker has to give information as to the position of the jack and woods by using a symmetrical measurement element together with the numbers on a clock face.
